:- 4.0 out of 5 stars from Greg Harding -- Fun historical fiction : If you don't like Mr. Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories, you probably won't like his Etienne Gerard. The idiosyncratic style is unmistakable. I do happen to like Sherlock Holmes and Napoleonic history so this book was a shoe-in for me. This is not a broad, sweeping history of military campaigns and colossal battles. This is a collection of somewhat unlikely adventures told by the protagonist, Gerard, the vain officer of a regiment of hussars (light cavalry) in Napoleon's Grande Army. I thought it made for fun, light reading and would recommend it. ( Reviewed in the United States on August 17, 2015 )
